Yet another meme

I escaped from the Dungeon of Turvy!

I killed Tempy the kobold, Seigyoku the kobold, Aulddragon the orc, Tb3 the rat, Jjrjustin the kobold and Duckroll the zombie.

I looted the Sceptre of Manga, the Armour of Movies, the Axe of Manga, the Armour of Manga, the Sword of Movies, the Dagger of Coding, the Dagger of Movies, the Armour of Manga, the Axe of Freddo, the Axe of Books, the Sword of Anime, the Axe of Coding and 71 gold pieces.

Score: 96

Rather silly meme Freddo posted, but it took my mind of work for a few minutes, so it's all good ;)

By the power of...

You Are Wind

Strong and overpowering
A force to be reckoned with, no one dares cross you
You have the power to change everything around you

You are best known for: your wrath

Your dominant state: commanding

Fear my wrath!

Wrath delivered with...

Dual Pistols
You preferred a weapon with 9% power over speed and 60% range over melee.
You use Dual Pistols.

Best done with relatively light pistols like Berettas, a pair of pistols is the quintessential Street Samurai's arsenal. Stylish and fast, a pair of pistols is inaccurate but fearsome. You excel at providing cover fire and look cool while doing it. Your opponents will dive for cover when you reach to your sides.

Episodic games rant

So I stumbled upon the new Sam & Max website, and I just couldn't resist the comic generator thingy.
Anyway, about the new sam & max.
What the hell is going on with all these "episodic" games?
I can understand it from a development point of view (more time to tailor your story, faster release, etc), but from a buyer point of view, it *sucks*.
It's like Sin Episode 1 that I played recently. I mean, it's an ok game, but story-wise it's sadly lacking, and I finished it in less than 4 hours.
Only one possible reaction : "Excuse me, I paid 20€ for *this*?"
Then it turns out I'll have to wait half a year or more for the rest of the story... Hooray, it's 9 episodes with half a year between them, so by the time the story is done, duke nukem forever will be out! =p

Silent Hill movie = awesome

Silent Hill is the best game to movie adaptation ever, pleasing to both fans of the games and people that have never heard of it.
Discuss.

I'm sorry Malrock, but it must be fate, right? ;)

Also, in other news, I finally released a new version of my Prince of Persia Toolset. It should extract all textures and most of the static level data now.

April 2006 season

Right, looks like it's time for the classic season anime series roundup (in random order)

Let's see...

The good
Black Lagoon : Japan goes big budget hollywood action movie. Also, nuns with guns and nazi's = MANY INTARNETS WIN.
Haruhi no Yuuutsu : It's freaky, but I love it.
Joshikousei : My ecchi comedy of the season.
Nana : Nana = wuv. 'nuff said.
RAY : Akihito Yoshitomi is a great mangaka, and the anime is a very well done adaptation.
The Third : Surprise of the season. A xebec show that actually looks good and has an interesting storyline.

The bad
Disgaea : Oh. my. god. This is so bad I don't even have any words for it. I hope the game (which I haven't played) isn't nearly as bad, otherwise I'm going to start doubting everyone's sanity.
.hack//ROOTS : snore, bore and other things ending in ore. Sorry, even a catgirl can't save you.

The borderline
Air Gear : I like the manga a lot more, but I'll give it a few more eps to see where it goes.
Glass Kantai : I like the storyline, but the animation is pretty bad. The character designs are outrageous. We'll see if the animation quality increases in the next ep.
Inukami : This is... so bad for the brain, but it's FUNNY. Anyway, I'm giving it a few more eps to see where it's going, if anywhere.
Jyu-oh-sei : A bad bones show? ZOMG. It's got 1 more ep to convince me.
Simoun : Episode 1 was bad, episode 2 was great. I'm on the fence. We'll see which way I fall off.

I'm ALIVE!

Happy (one-day-late) Easter everyone!

So, yeah, I'm still alive. Surprised?
(actually, I'd forgotten which damn password I'd used for my LJ account orz)

The MMORPG has me

It's finally happened to me... I've contracted MMORPG-itis.
The culprit's name is Silk Road Online, a free Korean MMORPG set in a sort of fantasy ancient China. It's a bit engrishy, but that only adds to the charm.

A winnar is Gun x Sword!

Just wanted to tell everyone that Gun x Sword is the first awesome series of the new season. Taniguchi is the man. It's the second coming of s-CRY-ed, right down to the music and some of the basic setups. Go watch it. Now. You'll thank me later.

(assuming your nihongo-fu is strong enough of course, since it's licensed. I have no idea why Bandai US let it slip through their fingers, but I bet they'll end up beating themselves something awful)

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Keys in #aod just skyrocketed up a lot of notches on my favourite people list.

MS igLoo = AWESOME

Well, the first 2 MS igLoo OVAs cured my hatred for the OYW (yes, I know, but it's all the damn short deadlines' fault). The full 3D CGI OVAs follow the Zeon 603th technical unit. The first one is set mainly against the battle of Loum at Side 5 (which looks FUCKING AWESOME) and features the JORMUNGAND, while the second one features the HILDORFLR mobile tank (I'm now 100% positive gundam names are found by taking scrabble tiles out of a bag) in a battle against ZAKU in the desert.

Images for episodes 1&2 (possible spoilers) )

Can't wait for the next one.

Which OS-tan am I?

Which OS-tan am I? The only REAL windows, of course!

Which OStan are you?

You are Windows 2000 Professional Edition. You are the most stable and reliable of all the Windows girls. Of course, since your main comparison is with ME, that’s not saying much. You’re popular with some, but you’re being replaced with XP. You often help take care of your sister ME.

*cough*

So I'm pretty much flat on my back, unable to do any work. Damn you, stupid disease.
A couple more days of doing bugger-all but lying in bed (alternated with being sick in buckets) and I'll be going (even more) insane.

Whee

Finished the translation of the 3rd gundam movie today and the second pass of the 2nd movie. Go me!

Also watched Zettai Shounen episode 1. Go watch it, now, if your nihongo-fu is good enough, it's awesome.

How to piss off a translator

Told myself I wouldn't do this at the start, but I just have to...

How to piss off a translator, in 3 easy steps.

Step 1
Thursday, 15:32
delivery guy brings about 5 kilos of paper reading "Gundam Movie 2 script" and "Gundam Movie 3 script".
Translator goes "yay, finally, now I can start working on those... right after I finish this other DVD"
Your translator is now : happy

Friday, 02:12
Translator finishes finalizing scripts for other DVD. Starts reading through script. Notices he didn't get any timing stuff yet. Uh-oh. Translator mails person in charge of the movies for timed scripts.
Your translator is now : worried

Step 2
Friday, 16:40
Translator receives timed scripts. Re-yay. Translator starts working right away, so that he can squeeze in at least some of the script already before he has to finalize dvd-of-other-series-with-5-episodes-per-DVD.
No deadline yet, DVDs are planned over a few months.
Your translator is now : happy, but slightly daunted by amount of work

Step 3
Friday, 19:03
Translator receives mail from person in charge of the movies. Person would like to have both scripts done by monday, if possible.
*tick tick tick*
Translator looks at MOUNTAIN of papers.
*tick tick tick*
Translator looks at 6000 time events to translate.
*kaboom*
Translator explodes.
Your translator is now : fucking pissed

So anyway, I've done the 2nd movie completely and am like... 1/5th into the 3rd one now and I'm NEVER going to make the deadline, but fuck it. They'll get them when I'm happy with them, and when I don't have to finish 3 OTHER DVDs worth 15 episodes in the same week.

Morituri te salutant

So in a few hours, it's con-time again. Unfortunately, they moved our panel to god damn friday night again -_-, but at least it's not past midnight this year =p
Anyway, just thought I'd let you know so you don't panic if you don't see me this weekend. I'm not dead, I'll be back on sunday, people and other organisms. ;)

The birthday meme thing

"Borrowed" this from starcreator's LJ entry today.

Your Birthdate: July 25

Your birth on the 25th day of the month (7 energy) modifies your life path by giving you some special interest in technical, scientific, or other complex and often hard to understand subjects. You may become something of a perfectionist and a stickler for details.

Your thinking is logical and intuitive, rational and responsible.

Your feelings may run deep, but you are not very likely to let them show. This birthday makes you a more private person, more introspective and perhaps more inflexible. In friendships you are very cautious and reserved. You are probably inventive, and given to unique approaches and solutions.

The scary thing is that it's pretty much dead on.
Where are those cameras?

Koikoi 7

I can't help but like this show.
It's full of pop anime references and so way over the top that I can't help but laugh. While it's making me laugh, it also has interesting character backstories that are darker than usual. Oh, and the abundant fanservice doesn't hurt either ;)

Sat, Apr. 30th, 2005, 10:52 am
Why am I doing this again?

I keep wondering why I started this thing in the first place (well, I know why, I needed it to be able to respond to duckroll's Ceres post =p) but I'll be damned if I know what to write here, since most of my daily life
a) isn't very interesting
b) isn't something I would want to tell the world about

So I've decided to use this LJ to spout garb^H^H^H^Hcomments about movie, anime and book-related stuff, mainly reviews probably. Feel free to suggest other stuff I can write in this thing as well, I'll see how much interest/energy I can bring up to do it =p

(Oh, and in case AndrewLB or Enron from #aod ever read this : Yes, another one of those damn personal review blogs, and no, I don't give a shit what you think =p)

Speed Grapher episode 04

I'll keep it short this time.
The *basic* story of speed grapher is okay I guess, but all the dirty stuff is just too... well, tacked on, basically. I must admit that I liked this ep a lot more than the previous 3 though. Speed Grapher just got itself another life extension ;)
