So I stumbled upon the new Sam & Max website, and I just couldn't resist the comic generator thingy.
Anyway, about the new sam & max.
What the hell is going on with all these "episodic" games?
I can understand it from a development point of view (more time to tailor your story, faster release, etc), but from a buyer point of view, it *sucks*.
It's like Sin Episode 1 that I played recently. I mean, it's an ok game, but story-wise it's sadly lacking, and I finished it in less than 4 hours.
Only one possible reaction : "Excuse me, I paid 20€ for *this*?"
Then it turns out I'll have to wait half a year or more for the rest of the story... Hooray, it's 9 episodes with half a year between them, so by the time the story is done, duke nukem forever will be out! =p

Let's see...

The good
Black Lagoon : Japan goes big budget hollywood action movie. Also, nuns with guns and nazi's = MANY INTARNETS WIN.
Haruhi no Yuuutsu : It's freaky, but I love it.
Joshikousei : My ecchi comedy of the season.
Nana : Nana = wuv. 'nuff said.
RAY : Akihito Yoshitomi is a great mangaka, and the anime is a very well done adaptation.
The Third : Surprise of the season. A xebec show that actually looks good and has an interesting storyline.

The bad
Disgaea : Oh. my. god. This is so bad I don't even have any words for it. I hope the game (which I haven't played) isn't nearly as bad, otherwise I'm going to start doubting everyone's sanity.
.hack//ROOTS : snore, bore and other things ending in ore. Sorry, even a catgirl can't save you.

The borderline
Air Gear : I like the manga a lot more, but I'll give it a few more eps to see where it goes.
Glass Kantai : I like the storyline, but the animation is pretty bad. The character designs are outrageous. We'll see if the animation quality increases in the next ep.
Inukami : This is... so bad for the brain, but it's FUNNY. Anyway, I'm giving it a few more eps to see where it's going, if anywhere.
Jyu-oh-sei : A bad bones show? ZOMG. It's got 1 more ep to convince me.
Simoun : Episode 1 was bad, episode 2 was great. I'm on the fence. We'll see which way I fall off.

The culprit's name is Silk Road Online, a free Korean MMORPG set in a sort of fantasy ancient China. It's a bit engrishy, but that only adds to the charm.

Just wanted to tell everyone that Gun x Sword is the first awesome series of the new season. Taniguchi is the man. It's the second coming of s-CRY-ed, right down to the music and some of the basic setups. Go watch it. Now. You'll thank me later.

Well, the first 2 MS igLoo OVAs cured my hatred for the OYW (yes, I know, but it's all the damn short deadlines' fault). The full 3D CGI OVAs follow the Zeon 603th technical unit. The first one is set mainly against the battle of Loum at Side 5 (which looks FUCKING AWESOME) and features the JORMUNGAND, while the second one features the HILDORFLR mobile tank (I'm now 100% positive gundam names are found by taking scrabble tiles out of a bag) in a battle against ZAKU in the desert.

Translator goes "yay, finally, now I can start working on those... right after I finish this other DVD"

Translator finishes finalizing scripts for other DVD. Starts reading through script. Notices he didn't get any timing stuff yet. Uh-oh. Translator mails person in charge of the movies for timed scripts.

Translator receives timed scripts. Re-yay. Translator starts working right away, so that he can squeeze in at least some of the script already before he has to finalize dvd-of-other-series-with-5-episodes-per-DVD.

So anyway, I've done the 2nd movie completely and am like... 1/5th into the 3rd one now and I'm NEVER going to make the deadline, but fuck it. They'll get them when I'm happy with them, and when I don't have to finish 3 OTHER DVDs worth 15 episodes in the same week.

I can't help but like this show.
It's full of pop anime references and so way over the top that I can't help but laugh. While it's making me laugh, it also has interesting character backstories that are darker than usual. Oh, and the abundant fanservice doesn't hurt either ;)

I keep wondering why I started this thing in the first place (well, I know why, I needed it to be able to respond to duckroll's Ceres post =p) but I'll be damned if I know what to write here, since most of my daily life
a) isn't very interesting
b) isn't something I would want to tell the world about

So I've decided to use this LJ to spout garb^H^H^H^Hcomments about movie, anime and book-related stuff, mainly reviews probably. Feel free to suggest other stuff I can write in this thing as well, I'll see how much interest/energy I can bring up to do it =p

(Oh, and in case AndrewLB or Enron from #aod ever read this : Yes, another one of those damn personal review blogs, and no, I don't give a shit what you think =p)

Speed Grapher episode 04

The *basic* story of speed grapher is okay I guess, but all the dirty stuff is just too... well, tacked on, basically. I must admit that I liked this ep a lot more than the previous 3 though. Speed Grapher just got itself another life extension ;)

Trinity Blood episode 1

Might as well use this to do random comments about anime I watch.
This time : Trinity Blood episode 1, the new Hellsing Killer *cough*

Note : this probably contains lots of spoilers.

Nice opening song, character designs look sort of like hellsing, especially the monocled woman (leader?).
Interesting 2D art style, the 3D cgi clashes again, but not as much as I'd feared.
Anyway, we get the explanation of what happened years ago, and where the vampires came from. Aru^H^H^HAbel Nightroad isn't as totally fucked in the head as Arucard, but his freaky genkiness is weird ;) Jessica Lange (no relation to the little old lady sleuth actress, I hope) is a cute stewardess, but doesn't sound like she'll be a regular character.
Spot the "I've seen that before" stuff : The vampire with arm blades (Bloodrayne anyone?), the green "matrix" letters effect when the vampire puts his cd in the computer thingy.
The pope's sister (the monocled woman) really has the Hellsing vibe, and the pope is a real wuss... Apparently, everyone is family there. Makes me think of Borgia-like things (for those that know their history), altho there doesn't seem to be any orgies (yet ;).
Trinity Blood sports one of the classier eyecatches I've seen.
Oh, good, the ships are Lost Technology again. Must be stuff from before Armageddon then. Time to watch out for the huge flying ships outside my window I guess.
Thank god the glittering nun was a hologram. Weird technology mix there tho. The planes are pretty old tech (huge round dials and stuff) combined with the matrix CD drive screens in the main bridge. Compared to that, the hologram is really hightech.
Oh well, action scene. Abel's attitude is really weird tho. I think it would have been better if he'd been slightly more serious. What the... Abel is a vampire-bloodsucking vampire that has nanomachines in his body. That explains why he was so very hungry at the beginning I guess. Too long between vampires. =p
The fight was kinda lame, I hope the missile stuff will be better.
Wait, missiles are lost technology too? So one day, they'll run out of missiles? wtf... Too much "Lost" technology =p
The pope's brother isn't too happy someone(?) blew up his missile.
Abel gets Jessica to bring him a sandwich. Vampire-eating vampires can eat normal food? wtf.
Ooh, Monocle lady isn't too happy the Contra Mundi appeared. Apparently, they're the Earth's enemy. Poor Earth.
And time for the ED...
Nice ed, both music and graphics.

Verdict : OK I guess, but nothing really special (yet). It gets its 4 episodes test run.

Where the droves of people posting comments on my post? I want my money back!
While I'm bored and writing someting here anyway, I just want to use this opportunity to say that Meet the Fockers was one of the worst movies I'd seen in the last month, until it got topped by the Matrix Revolutions that I saw for the first time today.
Yes, I know it's old, but I didn't bother watching it way back then in the cinema, and boy am I glad I didn't. The first one was okay, the second one was bleh, but the third one is just a totally ridiculous pile of elephant droppings. Live action DBZ just doesn't work, people.
